The worst kind of accident is to be trapped in a car that crashes into a water body like a pond or a lake. What exactly do you do when the vehicle is sinking fast and you’re trapped and bound by the seatbelt? Well, fortunately there are several things you can do to get out of the predicament and such survival tips are extremely important to read as they may well save your life.
The most important thing to do of course when you crash into a lake is DONT PANIC!! Well!! C’mon, that’s what I’m supposed to say. Everyone one knows it’s easier said than done, the first thing most people will do when crashing into a lake is of course PANIC, and scream bloody hell!! But scream if you must because someone may hear you, at the same time, try to keep your wits about you and follow these steps to escape from a sinking car. You could save your own life!!
Undo The Seatbelt
Undo the seat belt as fast as possible. In fact as soon as you realise your car is in water, go for the seatbelt first. NOT THE WINDOW. If water gets to the seatbelt before you do then it’s a dicey situation because it could get jammed. If you can brace yourself from the impact and undo the seatbelt immediately after hitting water, that would be ideal.
Now Open the Window
Now you need to open the window. The electrical mechanism of the car won’t fizzle out so quickly so you need to perform these actions as soon as possible. If the window doesn’t open, position yourself to one end of the seat and use your feet to smash open the window.
Escape Through The Window
By now water may rush in with force so as you break the window, take a deep breath and wait for it. There is nothing else you can do to remedy or alert the situation, this could well be your only route to safety so again stop panicking, overcome your fear and try to manoeuvre yourself out of the window even as water rushes in because it will take a few seconds for the car to fill up with water. This gives you time to rush out.
Escape Quickly If The Car Is Equalized
When the car is equalized, escape as fast as you can. Your survival depends on how fast you move.
By now your body is undoubtedly in a condition of trauma or panic but if you can keep a small measure of cool that would work to your advantage don’t even bother to look right or left just look upwards to the light. If it is day time, this shouldn’t be a problem, but at night, there may be lights shimmering on the water, push yourself upwards in a vertical position. As soon as you escape from a sinking car, check yourself into a hospital immediately. Your valuable suggestions would be welcome in the comments below.
